Meet the Instructors

Karen Biddinger

At an early age Karen fell in love with animals, especially horses. She went on to spend many years training and competing all over the country winning awards and being ranked in the top 20 in the nation for her division. Eventually she gave up the sport to further her education and that is when she found her true passion and love for dogs.

Of course horses and dogs are different but much of the psychology is the same. She drew on her experience with training horses and applied it to working with dogs. Reading books and owning a very challenging Siberian Husky named Kalak gave her great insight to the mind of the dog. Kalak was not an easy dog. For example, she learned to open the refrigerator and help herself to anything she wanted. Even with a great deal of knowledge, Karen was not a professional, so she had to seek out the help of professional trainers to assist her with Kalak’s behavior and aggression issues. Unfortunately all three trainers offered methods of training that were totally ineffective and they told her to euthanize Kalak. So she did. It was an extremely horrifying and very disturbing experience for her. If only she had heard of Alternative Canine Training, Kalak would have lived a peaceful and fulfilled life.

The one good thing that came from this experience is an even greater need to study dogs and training methods. Eventually Karen became a proud owner of two Pit Bull Terriers and she had A.C.T. help train them. With the correct training methods and amazing results she became a huge believer in the company and its methods of training. Her dogs became amazingly well behaved and she became an advocate for pit bull ownership and education.

Eventually, because of her talents and knowledge of dogs, she was offered the position of professional dog trainer for Alternative Canine Training. Now she is an expert at training and rehabilitating dogs with all kinds of behavior problems including severe aggression. She has successfully rehabilitated hundreds of dogs. She is also a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals. Her goal is to prevent anyone else from experiencing what she went through with Kalak. Having that experience, combined with being a past A.C.T. client gives her a great advantage when it comes to relating to her clients which is very important. It also gives her the determination to educate her clients on proper dog ownership along with the importance of training and what can happen when there is a lack of leadership and proper training in the home. She is literally a trainer that can say to clients “I’ve been there - done that and I know the outcome.” This is invaluable when it comes to educating her clients and rehabilitating their dogs. This is what makes her so unique. Happy endings , that is what she wants for both the client and the dog and she works every day to make that happen!
